Luna is a 3-4 year old intact female border collie. She ran up to her foster mom’s daughter’s house in rural SE Louisiana in July, dirty and thin as a stray. She had been after the neighbors chickens. She ended up in Houston when her daughter evacuated with her in front of Ida. A vet check here for vaccinations showed her as heartworm positive and ABCR was called for help.
She is sweet, biddable, smart and a bit soft and shy. Due to the heartworm, her exercise needs to be restricted until treated, so it’s difficult to predict her drive, but we have noticed the distinctive border collie herding behaviors but she is not food or toy motivated. She is housebroken, crate trained and not destructive. She can be left loose in the house without getting into things. She cooperates for nail trimming, ear cleaning, brushing and baths. She gets along with other dogs. A home with backyard chickens would not be a good idea. She needs to go through HW treatment and get a spay so will not be available for several months.
