Heidi is a beautiful, super sweet, smart, pint-size Border Collie (or BC mix) with low-medium to medium energy who loves to cuddle and be close to her people. Heidi loves being brushed; she has a thin undercoat so her shedding, at least thru the summer months, has been less than most border collies. She would do best in a home where her owners are home most of the time as she is an "escape artist" from wire crates and would need to be confined in a plastic crate if she were alone, at least initially. In one short-term foster home without other dogs, she did exhibit some destructive behaviors when left uncrated and alone in the household. However, in another foster home with other dogs, she did not exhibit destructive behavior when left uncrated and alone. Heidi is completely housebroken and has been well-house mannered other than described above. She barks at a ringing doorbell but otherwise has not often barked.
Heidi's energy level is a cross between a companion energy and a lower energy active companion. She does not requires the typical amount of exercise nor has she exhibited much interest in balls or toys. However, with other dogs, she does herd/circle them while they are playing! She does love to go for walks and is well-behaved on leash.
Heidi exhibits herding instinct towards cats and we do not recommend a home with cats. She has been fine with school age and older children although she can become excited and herd them as well. Because of her herding instinct and circling behavior, she should not be left alone with infants or under-school age children.
Heidi is heartworm negative, vaccinated, spayed and ready to go. Her adoption donation is $300. If you are interested in her, please complete an adoption application.
